Barrier Height & Structure

Measured from finished ground level on the outside of the barrier. Must be maintained around the entire pool area.

The gap between the bottom of the barrier and the ground must not exceed 100mm. Surface beneath must be stable and not easily eroded.

Non-Climbable Zones

No footholds or handholds within the NCZ. Must be present on all barriers less than 1800mm in height.

Barrier Components

Any gaps between vertical members must not exceed 100mm at any point to prevent access.

No horizontal surfaces greater than 10mm in depth within NCZ unless sloped at 60° or more.

Gates & Access

Pool gates must swing outward (away from pool area) and have sufficient clearance to operate.

Gates must self-close and self-latch from any position without manual force.

If less than 1500mm high, latch release must be at least 1200mm above ground or 1000mm above highest foothold.
